7 Signs Your Car Has an Electrical Problem

Modern cars depend on wiring, sensors and computers. When something fails, the symptoms are often confusing. Here are seven common signs that point to an electrical fault.

1. Car is slow to start or clicks

A weak battery is the usual cause, but a loose terminal, worn starter or poor earth connection can give the same symptom. Check the terminals for white or green corrosion first.

2. Lights flicker or dim

Flickering headlights or dashboard lights often mean a failing alternator or a loose connection. If lights dim at idle and brighten when you rev the engine, have the charging system tested.

3. Repeated blown fuses

A fuse blows to protect a circuit. If the same fuse keeps blowing, replacing it with a bigger one is dangerous; the real cause is a short circuit or damaged wire that must be traced.

4. Warning lights on the dashboard

Battery, check-engine, ABS and airbag lights usually mean a sensor or wiring fault is stored in the car's computer. A diagnostic scan reads the code and shows where to look.

5. Burning smell or hot wires

This is serious. Stop driving, switch off and disconnect the battery if safe. Overheated wiring can cause a fire.

6. Power windows, locks or radio work intermittently

Often caused by worn wiring in door hinges or a poor earth. These faults come and go, which makes experienced fault tracing important.

7. Engine stalls or misfires

Faulty coils, crank or cam sensors and damaged harnesses can all cause misfires and stalling.

What to do

Do not guess by swapping parts. A proper diagnosis saves money. If you notice any of these signs in Mbale, bring the car to our workshop on Maluku Road or message us on WhatsApp.
